New Media Pioneers: Jim and Dave of Boomer Buddies Blog Talk Radio Show
Boomer Buddies Barbershop Banter With Indiana Dave and Jim Two Baby Boomer Practicing Pundits talking about the topics you want to hear about and solving problems our elected officials can’t seem to figure out.
Q: How long have you been broadcasting?
A: Dave and I started what is now Barbershop Banter with Indiana Dave and Jim on BlogTalkRadio in June of this year. We started with the idea that we wanted to support the troops somehow. Dave is a musician and writes and performs songs that are supportive of the troops. He has written several parodies that involve winning this war on terror and also several original songs like his song titled America is my home. We quickly saw that the Bloggers that were the most popular were the ones talking about politics. We fell into that for a short time and made many good friends. Our hearts just weren’t in it for all the mud slinging. For another thing Dave and I are probably complete opposites when it comes to our political views. So we have changed our format to talk about the great job our troops are doing and we also like to feature songs by Independent and unsigned artists. We prefer songs that support the Troops but we play a good variety.
Q: In your opinion, what does a good song need to consist of?
A: A good beat that compliments the sentiment of the song, meaningful lyrics and a hook that keeps the song in your head all day.
Q: What is your favorite band or favorite genre of music and why?
A: Prior to being introduced to Ariel Publicity I would have answered with something like Bob Seger/Classic Rock. Now While I still enjoy the Classic Rock I prefer Alternative, Indie Rock, Indie-Pop and Acoustic Rock, Funk,Folk and Jazz.
Q: What changes in content laws, broadcasting rights, etc. have affected you most?
A: We are still too new to have realized any changes in this area, we are still learning a lot of the do’s and don’ts
Q: A recent study found blogs to be more effective than MySpace in generating album sales; do you feel internet radio has the same power?
A: I absolutely do. I think if done properly a blogtalkradio show can create and increase the number of long lasting fans. In the short time Dave and I have been doing this show we have introduced several dozen artists to a group that would not have listened to them otherwise. Our listeners come out to hear Dave and I and as a side benefit they are treated to a variety of GOOD artists that are a breath of fresh air to what they get on the celestial radio. Blogtalkradio has all the benefits of a Blog and A radio show.
